1. Floyd Mayweather Jr.
World boxing champion Floyd Mayweather (aka "Money") is no stranger to winning in and out of the ring. His impressive boxing record is comparable to his stellar gambling record with a $45,000 win after backing Colorado State with a $50,000 bet. He also likes to tweet about his seven-figure bets and post pictures of his bookies. Humble, eh? But I guess when you're worth $400 million , it's a small thing.
2. 50 Cent
Rapper 50 Cent also likes to brag about his big bets. He tweeted about how the Giants won $500,000 to beat the 49ers. What strategy do people like 50 Cent follow when posting such crazy amounts of money? Of course, he listens to the voices in his head!
3. Michael Jordan
Michael Jordan's playing record, arguably one of the most famous sports stars of our time, has not exactly matched his success on the court . Although his NBA contracts spelled out a "no betting" code of conduct, there were rumours that Jordan's early retirement from basketball was a secret suspension while his gambling was under investigation.
The Chicago Bulls star admitted to losing millions, including a $165,000 loss at an Atlantic City casino and another $1.25 million to San Diego businessman Richard Equinas in a game of golf. There will almost certainly be more losses that we will never hear about. Should have stayed in basketball, Michael!
4. Charlie Sheen
Charlie may not be a shining example of anything positive. But somehow this man is made of money.
Mr Sheen was reportedly earning $1.8 million per episode of Two and a Half Men . The infamous actor, who has a penchant for booze and drugs, also had a bit of a gambling problem. Ex-wife Denise Richards claims that he regularly spent up to $200,000 a week on gambling. He was also rumoured to be a partner in a sports betting website. I'm not sure he's the best assistant ...
5. Paul Hornung
In his heyday, Paul "Golden Boy" Hornburg was a professional American football player and a member of four Green Bay Packer World Champion teams (including his first Super Bowl win). Despite his fame, he was disqualified for the entire 1963 season for betting between $100 and $500 on NFL and NCAA games. Small money compared to the millions betting by today's standards, but still considered unacceptable for the league.
6. Brian "Birdman" Williams.
Rapper (and apparent Pats fan) Birdman recently posted a $100,000 bet on Instagram against fellow rapper AR-Ab for the 2018 Super Bowl between the Patriots and Eagles. The bet later grew to $200,000 before the posts mysteriously disappeared ...
Eagles beat Patriots 41 to 33.
After the match, AR-Ab posted selfies on Instagram in which he was covered in money, while Birdman's posts made no mention of the bid. The posts have since been deleted and no one knows for sure if Birdman ever paid the $200,000 loss. We're sure AR-Ab won't let him forget.
7. Pete Rose
Rose, a former Cincinnati Reds player and manager, was the only MLB athlete in history to play over 500 games at five different positions . He also holds another record that is by no means flattering.
In 1989, Pete Rose was the first person in 40 years to receive a lifetime ban from baseball for betting on the sport. He denied the charges for 14 years, until the publication of his 2004 autobiography, My Prison Without Grids. There, Rose admitted to betting on his team every game.
8. Ashton Kutcher
In 2013, Kutcher (who replaced Charlie Sheen in Two and a Half Men) had a small side business betting on the biggest sports syndicate in the country. The sophisticated operation used Ashton's "dumb actor with lots of money" image as a cover to place big bets on American football until they gained popularity. Kutcher told Esquire magazine, "We got about $750,000 in four weeks of college football. It was pretty fun."
9. Jaromir Jagr
Despite being the highest paid star in the NHL in the 90s, Jaromir Jagr still felt the need to supplement his earnings with a little sports betting. Unfortunately, the Czech right winger managed to accumulate a $500,000 loss on an online bookmaker.
The owner of the website, William Caesar, alerted the press to Jagr's misconduct when Jagr stopped making payments. He has since started paying off his debts and seems to have put his playing days behind him.
10. Charles Barkley
"Sir Charles said he lost about $30 million in sports betting and blackjack before admitting he had a bit of a gambling problem. He still doesn't believe he has a problem per se, just that he was betting too much.
After a two-year break from betting, Barkley said he had learned to bet in moderation. Losing thousands is much better than losing millions!
