TruTV’s ‘Hardcore Pawn’ Hits Ratings High In Season Premiere

By | Uncategorized

Back for its seventh season Tuesday, truTV’s Hardcore Pawn premiered with record rating and viewership numbers. The pawn shop-based reality series pulled in 1.6 million viewers in the adults 18-49 demographic last night, rocketing up 36% over the show’s Season 6 debut last July and the best  truTV has ever done in the key demo. Hardcore Pawn also garnered truTV’s best ever season opener audience with 3.2 million viewers watching the return of pawnbroker Les Gold and his offspring. Last night’s viewership was up 25% over the Season 6 debut on July 10, 2012. Breaking records for truTV is nothing new for  Hardcore Pawn — when the series debuted in 2010, its 2.8 million viewers was at the time the best series or season premiere the network ever had.

Why is Les Gold in the Doghouse?

By | Detroit Love, from Les Gold

Help Me Get ‘Out of the Doghouse’!
In support of the Michigan Humane Society’s 24th annual Bow Wow Brunch, I’ve volunteered to be “in the doghouse.” In addition to raising awareness about a specific Michigan Humane Society program, I’ve set a goal of raising $5,000 to help MHS saving animal lives. Please help me reach this goal … and get me out of the doghouse!

Your donation of any amount will bring hope and help to animals in need right here in metro Detroit!

Animal Rescue
So many animals in our community are in desperate need of care, love, affection and nurturing. But more often than not, they give us much more than we give to them. When an animal is injured, sick or becomes trapped, the Michigan Humane Society’s Rescue Department swings into action.

Each year, MHS responds to more than 4,000 life-threatening animal emergencies in Detroit, Hamtramck and Highland Park. The MHS rescue team is there for the animals 365 days a year, helping provide a second chance for dogs, cats and other animals in desperate situations.

Your support will help ensure that when there’s an animal in need, someone will be there for them!

Please visit my specific page on the Michigan Humane Society website and show your support today!

American Jewelry and Loan Named in Two Categories of Metro Times ‘Best Of’

American Jewelry

& Loan

20450 Greenfield Rd., Detroit

For the unfamiliar, American Jewelry and Loan, which is nestled in an otherwise unsavory section of northwest Detroit, has the distinction of being a bona fide fan favorite beyond Detroit as the setting for TruTV’s Hardcore Pawn reality show. Run by the Gold family, American Jewelry has the most extensive cache of booty we’ve ever seen in a pawn store. Beyond just guns, gold and one man’s garbage-type trinkets, there are countless display cases with some pretty swanky items; electronics; furniture, and a million other things that have as interesting a history as they are bargain-priced. Don’t be put off by some of the clientele. Security abounds and, frankly, it’s a place you need to visit to appreciate.

Hardcore Pawn’s Les Gold For Detroit Emergency Manager

By | Other Bloggers

If you’ve been listening to the show or reading the papers you know that Detroit, MI is up the creek without a paddle. Decades of corruption and incompetence have led it to the brink of insolvency. In last ditch effort to avoid bankruptcy Michigan Governor Rick Snyder appointed an emergency manager to run things. The manager can pretty much do whatever he desires in the name of rescuing the city. But will it be enough?

My Appearance on Hallmark Channel’s New Show ‘Home and Family’

By | from Les Gold

by Les Gold

I had a great time on the set of the Hallmark Channel’s new show, Home and Family. I thought that I’d be sharing stories from my upcoming book, but instead they seemed so interested in learning more about the process of pawning. As a lifelong pawn broker, this is always a topic that I enjoy talking about with people.  If you saw the episode or check out the video, you’ll see that we had a great conversation about negotiating and establishing the value of an item, in this case an early  photograph of the Beatles.

They had seen our version of the Harlem Shake and decided to film their own which was a lot of fun to watch!
